Basic living and social skills are activities that instruct, assist and support a member in skill areas essential for everyday, independent living. Basic living and social skills are provided directly (face-to-face) to the member.

Examples of skill areas include the following:

•  Community resource utilization and integration
• Crisis assistance
• Relapse prevention
• Budgeting, shopping, and healthy lifestyle skills and practices
• Cooking and nutrition

A comprehensive Functional Assessment (FA) is a detailed narrative that explains how an individual’s mental health symptoms affect their ability to function in various roles and settings. It also considers other factors beyond mental health symptoms that may impact daily life.

The assessment of functional abilities contributes to the Level of Care Utilization System (LOCUS) evaluation, which determines the level of service intensity an individual requires.

The Interpretive Summary integrates information from the diagnostic, functional, and LOCUS assessments, helping prioritize goals for the individual's upcoming treatment plan. It serves as a vital connection between assessment findings and service planning.
